Schopenhauer-Research Centre

The Schopenhauer-Research Centre is a testament to the revival of interest in Schopenhauer research at the philosophy department of the University of Mainz, which was developed under the guidance of Rudolf Malter (1937-1994) in the 1980’s.

In close cooperation with and mainly financed by the Schopenhauer-Society the Schopenhauer-Research Centre was institutionalised as a scientific body of the University of Mainz in July 2001.

Since 2008, it is further supported to a considerable extent by the Dr. Walter and Dr. Gertrud Pförtner-Foundation.

It is run and was founded by Matthias Koßler.

In 2011 the Schopenhauer-Research Centre celebrated its 10th anniversary. Read the retrospective article written by Matthias Koßler (here as shorter version).
